Starting A New Work: Suitcase Seaweed.

I started a new work titled “Suitcase Seaweed.” The title is specific to the ziplock bags of seaweed I harvested this summer in Cordova, Alaska and San Jose, California, stuck in my suitcase and flew back to Fairbanks, Alaska.

In this piece, I am focusing on the “less is more” concept. Yet, I do want more details in each piece of seaweed that I pencil sketch before painting.

A major difference with this work is that seaweed will be the only element in it, no fish or flowers. Too, the background will be a darker pastel color. This will create a heightened contrast between the background and the seaweed in the foreground.
